This week, we’re exploring exciting new findings on the effects of a combination of valerian root and lemon balm extracts in children struggling with concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.
Key Highlights:
- Participants: 169 primary school children with concentration difficulties and hyperactivity (but not ADHD).
- Method: Children were treated with a daily dose of 640 mg valerian root extract (WS® 1014) and 320 mg lemon balm extract (WS® 1303) for 7 weeks. Evaluations were conducted by pediatricians and parents using standardized questionnaires at the start, and at 2 and 7 weeks.
Results:
- Focus Improvement: Symptoms of poor focus decreased from 75% to 14%.
- Hyperactivity Reduction: Hyperactivity symptoms dropped from 61% to 13%.
- Impulsiveness Decrease: Impulsiveness decreased from 59% to 22%.
- Overall Benefits: Significant improvements in social behavior, sleep, and overall symptom burden were observed. Only two children experienced mild, temporary side effects.
The combination of valerian root and lemon balm extracts shows promise as a natural option for managing restlessness and concentration issues in children, complementing traditional counseling and education approaches.
It’s remarkable how these natural extracts can make a difference in managing common childhood challenges, I’ve seen it in my own practice time and time again.
